Position: President, Boilermaker Road Race
Location: Utica, NY
The President of the Boilermaker Road Race will oversee the annual Boilermaker Road Race, one of America’s premier running races held on the second weekend in July in Utica, NY, and will carry on the year-round mission of “changing people’s lives in a healthy way;” by creating a vision for a thriving future. The President will have strong leadership qualities, the ability to connect with and inspire the local community, the skills to assess the current strengths of the organization, and to determine opportunities to improve and plan for continued growth and sustainability. This individual will be responsible for volunteer sustainability, financial growth, community commitment, sponsor relations and evaluation of the existing operational structure. The President must have an unwavering passion for the race, the local community and its loyal supporters and volunteers.
The President of the Boilermaker will take a key leadership role in the community and set a standard for professional, impactful communication and community relations. He/she must have impeccable leadership qualities that promote internal and external growth, and a proactive approach to address succession planning for staff and volunteers. Additionally, this individual will monitor changes in the running industry, identify opportunities to strengthen the race, and effectively engage with the national running community.
The President will demonstrate strong organizational management, strategic planning, and financial management skills. He/she must be a highly motivated leader with the ability to unite the internal team, community partners, volunteers, runners and sponsors to maintain the integrity of the race and continue its mission.
Essential Job Functions:
The President is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Boilermaker Road Race Inc. and reports to the Board of Directors. The President is responsible for the achievement of the mission, financial objectives, and developing a strategy for continued success.
The President has direct supervisory responsibilities for all Boilermaker Road Race employees and volunteers with the primary goal of providing an exceptional race experience and acting as a community leader in promoting positive change in health & wellness.
Analyzes and enhances the organizational infrastructure to ensure the success of the internal team, organizational culture, volunteer base, and sponsorship management.
Develops and implements the overall mission focused strategy with assistance from the BOD and management team including communicating clear expectations and vision for the future.
Develops and follows sound financial practices. Prepares the annual budget and ensures that the organization operates within budget guidelines to include diversified revenue streams that support the financial viability of the organization.
Engages in year-round community development efforts to support the Boilermaker brand and increase visibility of the organization, including the Boilermaker vision of promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Supports philanthropic efforts in the community that align with the Boilermaker’s mission of health and wellness.
Engages the BOD through strong and consistent lines of communication, clear vision and expectations.
Develops and executes succession plans for staff and volunteer positions.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Organizational Management or related field
Minimum of 7-10 years of strategic planning and organizational management experience
Demonstrated experience building and leading successful teams
Passion for the running community or related field
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office database systems
Experience with marketing and merchandising helpful
